Tips for a better drying process with an adsorption dehumidifier

  • At the occurrence of a water damage, it is important to start the drying process as quickly as possible. Therefore, we want to give you the best tips for the optimal installation of an adsorption dryer as well as some factors you need to consider.

    Make sure to get the wet air outside the building

    When blowing the wet air outside, make sure that the hoses are airtight and that the hose with the wet air is led to the outside of the building, for example through a window. Otherwise, the wet air leaks into the room and create another water damage that needs drying.

    Make sure that air circulation is possible

    When drying wet walls make sure that air circulation is possible. Fans are initially an effective way of making the drying process more effective since it increases the air circulation and make sure that the dry air reaches the surfaces that need to be dried.

    Use the energy efficiently

    Using plastic enclosure is an efficient way of utilizing the dry air where it is needed most. Brick and concrete are examples of materials where the transport of moisture is slow. Then it is especially important to use warm and dry air. The amount of air doesn’t need to be as large since it is only the volume under the tent that is treated . Corroventa’s ES-machines have a Delta X mode that produces less but drier air. This increases the drying efficiency even more when using plastic exposure.

    Check the air balance of the machine

    It is important to control the balance of wet and dry air from the dehumidifier. If you are using long hoses the air balance in the dehumidifier might be disrupted which makes the drying process less efficient. Corroventa’s ES-machines have a Capacity Mode that help you make sure that the air balance is on point. This will ensure an energy efficient drying process.



    Using dry air in rooms with a lot of wood.

    When drying with an adsorption dehumidifier you are using much dry air. This can cause damage to objects that are sensitive to dry air such as wood. If the air is too dry, the wood can burst. Examples of wooden objects that are sensitive are staircases, furniture or pianos. You can use a hygrostat to adjust the desired humidity level to prevent damages. Corroventa’s ES-machines have a built-in hygrostat for this purpose.

    Do not connect the wet air directly to the ventilation valve

    Since the balance of wet and dry air is important for the efficiency of the dehumidifier it is not a good idea to connect the wet air hose directly to an ventilation valve in the ventilation system. The ventilation system will then take too much air out of the machine which means that the dehumidifier will produce too little dry air. The drying process will take longer and the energy consumption will increase. Apart from a less efficient drying process, there are also risks involved with connecting the wet air to an ventilation valve; the ventilation system can be loaded with too much moisture or overheating the dehumidifier which results in an increased risk of fire.

    If you still need to use an ventilation valve to evacuate the wet air you should make sure that air can come in between the ventilator and the hose. You can do this by for example using a draught diverter or something similar.
